UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- Some business owners in Union County are worried that new rules designed to protect victims of crime will drive customers away.
???
A new ordinance requires that pawn shops, cash converter businesses, and scrap metal yards take a photo of every customer selling an item.
???
The idea is to make it easier for police to track stolen items, but some business owners feel it?s an invasion of privacy.

"The individual is being treated like a common criminal. Everybody that would pawn to me would have their picture taken just like somebody that has been convicted of a crime, going to the police station and having a mug shot done," said David Waugh who owns a pawn shop.
???
The county ordinance does not apply to businesses located within city limits, but commissioners are encouraging all cities, including Monroe, to adopt the ordinance.
